Over the centuries, images of Perseus have reflected not only the tenor of the times in which they were made, but also variations in different tellings of the myth. Here Perseus appears as a classically-inspired, yet clearly Renaissance figure. He holds a sword, rather than the sickle of Hermes, as described in most classical sources.
